As a team from SEA, nobody rated Mineski very highly at the start of the Dota 2 Asia Championships 2018, especially when compared to their EU counterparts, Team Liquid, Team Secret and Virtus Pro also in attendance. A promising group stage performance followed. Having to face off against some of the best teams in the world, no one really gave Mineski a chance.
But Mineski not only defeated Team Secret and Evil Geniuses in the group stages but also home turf teams like Vici Gaming, and LGD Gaming in two best-of-three victories. Suddenly Mineski had reached the World Championship finals and earned a shot at the Dota 2 Asia Championships’ trademark Radiance trophy against the team they had previously knocked down to the loser bracket finals.
No longer the underdogs, Mineski’s bracket stage performance, coupled with LGD's fatigue thanks to playing in a full BO3 against Virtus.Pro in the Loser Bracket Finals, had made Mineski the series favorites. And unlike many others who were given that title, Mineski played the Dota 2 Asia Championships 2018 finals as true favorites.
LGD Gaming, put up a great fight to push this series towards a Game 5, but ultimately they couldn't take down Mineski’s superior team fighting capability. And it was these teamfight victories which led Mineski to a 3-2 victory.
As they raise the Radiance, Mineski has secured 2250 points from this event alone (3150 in total) and look like they’ve virtually confirmed their place at TI8.
They will also be walking home with $370,000 in prize money and a lot of pride for they’ve just won SEA’s FIRST EVER VALVE MAJOR TITLE!!
